I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology at Simon Fraser University, in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. As a historical archaeologist, my research focuses on the colonial period in the highlands of Ecuador, South America. Funding for my research mostly comes from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. For a number of years I had a project in the city of Cuenca, in the southern highlands of Ecuador, but since 2004 I have been working in the Colta region of the central highlands, the location of the Spanish colonial city of Riobamba.
In 2014 I became a co-investigator on a project to look at the historical ecology of a 19th century sugar plantation on San Cristóbal Island in the Galapagos. You can follow that project on our Facebook page. Or if you are feeling particularly flush you could buy our book on the project.
